dc.description.abstract | Objectives: The study examines whether isokinetic training at various angular velocities is also effective at angular velocities which are not usually preferred for training and testing purposes. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out with isokinetic strength training and measurement of 18 lower extremities of nine healthy individuals (three males and six females) with a mean age of 27.1 ± 3.5 years. Individuals who were prescribed isokinetic training for two days a week for a total of six weeks were evaluated before and following the study. The evaluation protocol was designed as a set of five repeats at 60°/s angular velocity, single sets of 10 repeats each at 120°/s and 180°/s angular velocities, single sets of 15 repeats each at 240°/s and 300°/s angular velocities. The isokinetic training protocol was applied as three sets of 10 repeats at an angular velocity of 60°/s and three sets of 15 repeats at an angular velocity of 180°/s, in the concentric-concentric mode. Results: Average peak torque scores increased significantly (p<0.05) at 60°/s, 120°/s and 180°/s angular velocities, when comparing pre- and post-training, but there were no increases at 240°/s and 300°/s angular velocities (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was shown that angular velocity is important in isokinetic training, and that training at high angular velocities provides strength increases at lower angular velocities, but would not increase strength at angular velocities above the training level. For this reason, it is thought that in the preparation of an isokinetic strength training protocol, angular velocities need to be taken into account. For any athlete, the force at the angular velocity required in her/his sports branch needs to be considered. | en_US |
