Özet
Kanser, geçmişten günümüze varlığını devam ettiren ve tıp alanındaki tüm ilerlemelere ve geliştirilen yeni tedavilere rağmen hala insan hayatı için tehlike arz eden bir hastalıktır. Bu tezin konusu, meme kanseri tanısı konmuş kadın hastaların, tanı sonrasında hastalık deneyimi ile değişen yaşamlarıdır. Bu çalışma, hastalığın getirdiği değişimleri toplumsal bağlamda ele alınmakta ve kadınların özellikle tedavi süresince yaşadıkları zorlukları, kadınlararası paylaşımları ve geliştirilen dayanışmaları ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışma, bir gün herkesin karşı karşıya kalabileceği kanser hastalığının, hastalığı deneyimleyenlerin yaşamında ve duygu dünyasında yol açtığı değişimleri, karmaşayı, hasta olmayanlar için de görünür kılmaya çalışmaktadır. Bu tez, meme kanseri tanısı konmuş, gerekli tedavi ve operasyonları geçirmiş ya da hala tedavisi devam eden kırk yaş üstü 16 kadın ile derinlemesine görüşme tekniği kullanılarak yapılan bir nitel araştırmanın sonuçlarına dayanmaktadır. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen temel bulgulardan yola çıkan bu tez üç bölümden oluşan bir tartışma yürütmektedir. Kanser tanısı sonrasında hastaların ortaklaşan deneyimleri, iki uca savrulan duygular ile meme kanseri ve hastane yaşamı olmak üzere üç ana başlık altında incelenmiştir.
Cancer is an illness with a long history. It has been threatening human beings despite developments in medicine that offered a variety of treatments with many of them not sufficient to eradicate the illness. This master's thesis is about the impact of cancer on the lives of women after they are diagnosed with breast cancer. This study is focused on the changes within a social context while trying to explain the difficulties women experience due to their illness and the solidarity created between women and the way they share their experience. One day we may all suffer from cancer and with this work aims to provide a bigger picture for cancer-free persons to realize the way cancer effects the mental and emotional lives of people with cancer and how they feel totally lost throughout the process. This thesis is based on the results of a qualitative study using in-depth interview technique with 16 women over forty years of age who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, who have undergone the necessary treatment and operations or are still undergoing treatment. Based on the main findings obtained from the research, this thesis conducts a discussion in three parts. Following the diagnosis of cancer the common experience of the women with breast cancer has been studied in three main topics: swinging emotions, breast cancer and life in hospital.
