This research aims to examine the fields of modernism and the formative factors of modern Iranian and Turkish visual art and to analyze the structure of the works by focusing on the use of traditional elements by modern Iranian and Turkish painters in a worldwide arena through analyzing their formal elements. To achieve this, the Saqaqhana movement, which is the most important and relatively consistent movement of modern art, has been selected as the main case study and the works of artists called Group D in Turkey are examined and their effects on the formation of contemporary art are revisited in this research. Iran's modernist art has been influenced by developments in Western art, and after the first phase of repeating Western modern art, it tried to create modern art based on Iranian origin. The first movement was presented as the Saqakhaneh, with approaches such as the use of traditional Iranian elements that Iranian painters have widely used since the 20s. This movement, which continues to play an important role in the formation of contemporary Iranian art, has greatly benefited from the elements of calligraphy. While examining the role of traditional art in creating this flow, the functions of calligraphy and its interaction with contemporary art will be scrutinized in this study.
