The Ixe Asxete inscription, which dates back to the period of the Second Turkic Khaganate, is a memorial stone inscription written on three sides of two stone blocks that belong to the sarcophagus of Altun Tamgan Tarxan. The inscription has been read by several scholars such as W. Radloff, H. N. Orkun, S. E. Malov, K. Wulff (unpublished notes), N. Ser-Odjav, E. B. Rinchen, L. Bazin, L. V. Clark, L. Bold, E. Rejebov-Y. Memmedov, N. Bazilhan, M. Dobrovits and T. Osawa. However, all these readings are partly unconvincing. In the present paper, the author will examine and re-read the three faces of the inscription in the light of recent lexicological studies and try to propose a better reading and translation of the text.en_US
