Araştırmanın örneklemini 70 anne ve baba oluşturmakta olup katılımcıların 35'i kadın 35'i erkektir. The primary goal of this study is to compare the depression and hopelessness levels of the parents of mentally disabled children. We evaluated the effects of children's gender, age, disability type, sibling number and parent's age, gender, education and socioeconomic status on the depression and hopelessness levels of mentally disabled children's parents. The study population includes 35 females and 35 males, with total number of 70 parents. "Family Information Form", "Beck Hopelessness Scale" and "Beck Depression Inventory" are used. "Female" participants' mean "Depression" scores were significantly higher then "Male" participants' scores (p<0.001, t=4.459), "Disabled" participants' "Depression" scores were significantly higher than "Nondisabled" participants' scores (p=0.024, t= 2.313) and participants with "Chronic Disease" had significantly higher "Depression" scores then participants "Without Chronic Disease" (p=0.017, t=2.445). There was statistically significant relation between "Depression" scale with "Socioeconomic Status" (p=0.038) and "Psychological Therapy" (p<0.002). "Depression Scale" scores were statistically higher in the participants with "500 TL or less" income compared to other income groups and in the participants who are "Currently Receiving Psychological Therapy" compared to participants who "Received Psychological Therapy In The Other Times". As a result, participants who are females, parents of mentally disabled children and who have chronic disease and low socioeconomic status, were found to have more depression levels. More comprehensive studies are required to evaluate the needs of mentally disabled children's parents and solutions to supply those needs. Key Words : Mental Disability, Parents, Hopelessness, Depression
