Öğe Analyzing the technical efficiency on the effects of foreign portfolio investment in the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in turkey(Academic Journals, 2011) Duran, Selman; Zehir, CemalThis paper investigates the contribution of foreign portfolio investment (FPI) to firms' technical efficiency and total factor productivity by applying two empirical methodologies over a sample of firms. In the study, panel data is from 45 small businesses (small and medium-sized enterprises, SMEs) in Turkey were observed between 2006 and 2010 years. We will analyze the effects of foreign portfolio investment by using the data on businesses in the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE). To measure efficiencies of these units, data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach and Malmquist total factor productivity indexes (MTFP) are used.Öğe Back to the Past: Re-Measuring the Levels of Strategic Orientations and Their Effects on Firm Performance in Turkish Family Firms: An Updated Empirical Study(Elsevier Ltd., 2012) Altindag, Erkut; Zehir, CemalThree years ago now, a special research was developed to evaluate strategic orientations levels on family firms’ performance in Turkey. This episode contained six different strategic orientations including market, innovation, relationship, customer, learning and entrepreneurship. After three years, a revised survey in same context has performed on Turkish family owned firms in different sectors. To adapt today’s conditions and work’s scientific strength, three of strategic orientations are removed from the running. This revised and updated study will try to explore the relationship between effects of strategic orientations levels on firm performance and the family firms in Turkey again. The new outputs and their inter-relationships will be released and discussed in the conclusion section.Öğe CHARISMATIC LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOR: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF ETHICAL CLIMATE(Soc Personality Res Inc, 2014) Zehir, Cemal; Muceldili, Busra; Altindag, Erkut; Sehitoglu, Yasin; Zehir, SongulWe examined the influence of charismatic leadership on ethical climate and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Data were obtained from 600 employees in several industry sectors. The findings showed positive relationships among charismatic leadership, ethical climate, and OCB. Ethical climate was found to be a weak mediator in the relationship between charismatic leadership and OCB. However, ethical climate mediated the relationship between the OCB factor of civic virtue and charismatic leadership factors of sensitivity to the environment/strategic vision and articulation, sensitivity to members' needs, and status quo. The fast pace of change in competitive market environments might be adduced as evidence for this view. This new concept requires new strategic alternatives for the family-owned companies. Successful family firms need to establish a board devoted to strategic business issues [1], [2]. A few of studies have demonstrated effects of innovation or relationship orientation on innovation-driven organizational performance in Turkey. The purpose of this paper is determine and report the results of a research study aimed of providing an overview including the key dimensions of performing two strategic orientations of family owned business enterprises and hope to bring new outputs into strategic orientation literature to fill this gap in the field of the study in Turkey.Öğe IMPACT ON PRESENTEEISM OF THE CONSCIENTIOUSNESS TRAIT: A HEALTH SECTOR CASE STUDY(Soc Personality Res Inc, 2017) Yildiz, Harun; Yildiz, Bora; Zehir, Cemal; Altindag, Erkut; Mologlu, Vedat; Kitapci, HakanOur purpose in this study was to examine the relationship between presenteeism and the conscientiousness trait as an individual-level predictor of employee health and productivity. We used convenience sampling to recruit 168 Turkish health employees, who completed measures of conscientiousness and presenteeism. The findings revealed that in a work outcomes context, the conscientiousness trait was positively related to the noncompletion of work dimension of presenteeism, the focus of which is on work outcomes. However, the relationship between the conscientiousness trait and the distraction dimension of presenteeism was nonsignificant. Our findings have implications for managers and organizations, who should be proactive in taking preventative precautions to mitigate the possible negative effects of presenteeism behaviors.Öğe THE RELATION BETWEEN AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP, BUSINESS CAPABILITIES AND BUSINESS PERFORMANCE(Future Acad, 2019) Zehir, Cemal; Hemedan, Isa; Sehitoglu, Yasin; Erzengin, EsraThe study examines the relation between authentic leadership, business capabilities such as learning, entrepreneurship, product development and business performance. The study comprises of a qualitative research which includes a comprehensive literature review. Leadership style, particularly authentic leadership which has a significant effect on business capabilities (learning, entrepreneurship, product development) is explained in detail. According to the hypotheses of the study; it is put forward that authentic leadership effects capabilities of a company such as learning, entrepreneurial and product development. On the other hand, learning, entrepreneurial and new product development capabilities effect business performance. According to the literature review conducted within the study, it is observed that authentic leadership effects a company's learning, entrepreneurial and product development capabilities positively as well as learning, entrepreneurial and new product development capabilities effect business performance in a positive way. Further studies including quantitative research is recommended since the study consists of a qualitative research. Moreover, how the relational norms between producers and suppliers affect the firm performance, from the viewpoint of resource dependence and transaction costs theories. The study was conducted with the data of the face-to-face and individual surveys carried out with the managers of business organizations (314 participants) employed in different sub-sectors in the manufacturing sector, between May - December 2017. The validity and reliability of the scales were studied with exploratory and confirmatory factor Analyses. The hypotheses were tested with the support of the Structural Equation Modelling technique. As a result of the study, it is observed that Resource dependency parameters have a statistically significant impact on relational norms between producer-supplier. Solidarity from producer-supplier relational norms, mutuality, and relational focus variables meaningly influence the firm performance. Moreover, asset specificity of resource dependency parameters meaningly influences the mutuality. Accordingly, Resource dependence parameters and the relational norms between producer and supplier explain 38% of the variance in firm performance. (C) 2019 Published by Future Academy www.FutureAcademy.org .UKÖğe Role Of Stakeholder Participation Between Transparency And Qualitative And Quantitive Performance Relations: An Application At Hospital Managements(ScienceDirect, 2016) Çınar, Fadime; Zehir, Cemal; Şengül, HalilTransparency is one of the basic principles of corporate governance and ın this study, applicability of transparency variables in the private and public hospitals in İstanbul were investigated. A positive relationship is estimated between transparency and stakeholder participation as a good governance element in qualitative and quantitative performance of corporate performance. Survey method is preferred as a research method and it was applied to 351 upper and mid-level managers in 74 hospitals listed in the list of hospitals in the provincial health directorates between 2013- 2014 in Istanbul. Data were analysed with SPSS 16.00 and factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used to test the data. As a result of these analyses, it was understood that applicability of transparency principles have a positive effect on qualitative and quantitative performance through stakeholder participation. The mediating effect of stakeholder participation on the relationship between transparency principle and qualitative and quantitative performance was identified first time in this research. Therefore it is an important contribution to the literature.Öğe THESES IN CSR; WHAT THEY SAY AND HOW THEY SAY IT?(FUTURE ACAD, 2017) Erzengin, Esra; Zehir, Cemal; Zehir, Songül; Zehir, SongülThis study is a content analysis which focuses on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) theses in Turkey. The main question of the research is “Are there any parallels between the scientific literature in Turkey and the rest of the world in terms of CSR studies?”. In order to answer the research question, the study tries to determine the content of the scientific thesis studies (such as research fields studying CSR, samples and methods used in researches, study subjects etc.) with a focus on future studies and possible methods. The research includes post graduate theses on CSR between 2007 and 2016. There are 128 post graduate theses focused on CSR between 2007 and 2016 in Turkey. Research includes theses in Turkish and open for access. In this context, 92 scientific thesis studies (13 doctorate and 79 master’s degree) are analysed. The study makes a comparison between Turkey and the rest of the world in terms of scientific literature on CSR and provides suggestions for future research.
