Öğe Investigation of the Effects of MicroRNA-221 Expression Levels in Glioblastoma Multiforme Tumors(Int Inst Anticancer Research, 2020) Ozdogan, Selcuk; Yaltirik, Cumhur Kaan; Yilmaz, Seda Gulec; Akdeniz, Fatma Tuba; Sumerkent, Kadir; Duzkalir, Ali Haluk; Ture, UgurBackground/Aim: The aim of our study was to examine miRNA-221 as a candidate biomarker to define prognosis and/or classification for glial tumors. Materials and Methods: This study included 39 patients who underwent glial tumor surgery and 40 healthy individuals as the control group. miRNA expression levels were determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used for analyzing the predictive ability of miRNA-221. Results: The levels of miRNA-221 expression were determined by comparing the Delta CT values of miRNAs and the internal control. When the expression levels of miRNA-221 were compared according to the Delta CT method, miRNA-221 was found to be significantly increased in the patient group compared to the control group (p<0.0001). Conclusion: Increased expression levels of miRNA-221 could be a biomarker for glial tumors.Öğe Prognostic Significance of Glutathione Peroxidase(GSH-Px) Levels in Lumbar Degenerative DiscDisease(2020) Akdeniz, Fatma Tuba; Yaltırık, Cumhur; İsbir, Turgay; Sümerkent, Kadir; Yılmaz, Seda Güleç; Özdoğan, SelçukObjective: In this study, the main aim was to research whether decreased antioxidant activity was manifesting the intervertebral disc degeneration in a population in which the degeneration could be compatible with their ages.Material and Method: The study group consisted of 39 patients with lumbar disc degeneration (LDD) and 37 healthy controls. Patient data including age, symptoms, neurological examination findings, lumbar MRI findings, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores, and Visual Analogue Scale of pain (VAS) were used. Human Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) level was determined using the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Results: Serum GSH-Px levels were significantly lower in the patients with LDD when compared to the healthy controls (p=0.011).Conclusions: In the present study, we demonstrated that, in addition to environmental factors, there is a correlation between GSHPx enzyme deficiency and lumbar disc degeneratio
