Özet

The interstate functioning, the acceptance of national identities, emerges as a reflection of the stable, independent state structure defined through these identities. The most critical factor in this process is developing partnership structures before the states by ensuring communication between states and creating cultural, political, and economic infrastructures in the peaceful environments these partnerships bring. These infrastructures help to manage interstate relations and other social actors’ relations. Media is one of the important actors in this field. Within the scope of this study, the field of media diplomacy is scrutinized, and in this context, the role of L'Aujourd'hui la Turquie, the sole newspaper published in French in Turkey, in the field of media diplomacy within the framework of Turkey–France relations is examined. Within the scope of the study, an online interview was held with Hüseyin Latif, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, via Zoom on November 3, 2021 and various questions were asked about the functioning of the newspaper, its editorial policy, relations between Turkey and France, and its role in the field of media diplomacy. As a result of the study, the closure of dozens of French-language newspapers from the Ottoman Empire to the present and the fact that Aujourd'hui la Turquie remained the only French-language newspaper in Turkey shows the deteriorating relations between Turkey and France in the field of media diplomacy and it is considered that Turkey has been missing a significant opportunity in the field. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
