A painful or stiff shoulder may be caused by various diseases and conditions, including neurological or vascular disorders, neoplasms, referred pain from internal organs, and disorders of the cervical spine (extrinsic causes). In most cases the complaints are of intrinsic origin, caused usually by articular or periarticular rheumatic conditions of the shoulder joint. The majority of patients are treated in primary health care, as intrinsic complaints often constitute a self-limiting condition of relatively short duration (less than three months). The long-term outcome is not always favourable: persisting pain or a limited range of motion in chronic conditions may last for several years. In this chapter, we have covered some of the interesting issues related to the shoulder such as evaluation of the rotator cuff tears, approach to shoulder instability, subacromial impingement syndrome, superior labrum anterior posterior lesions, and frozen shoulder. © 2020 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
