Öğe Are YouTube videos useful as a source of information for oral care of leukemia patients?(Quintessence Publishing Co Inc, 2020) Salli, Gulay Altan; Egil, EdibeObjectives: Video sharing sites are a popular and useful way to spread information. The aim of this study was to evaluate information about oral care for leukemia patients and quality of information related to videos available on YouTube. Method and materials: In this cross-sectional study, YouTube videos were analyzed according to the information content. The search was performed in English and using the search term: leukemia/oral care. The following information was registered: date of upload, source of upload, duration, total views, number of likes, number of dislikes, number of comments, overall quality. The overall quality of videos was assessed using the following quality criteria presented in the Global Quality Scale (GQS): poor, generally poor, moderate, good, and excellent. In addition, videos were classified as useful, misleading, and patient personal experience. Videos were assessed in terms of definition, etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms, treatment, and oral care for leukemia. Results: Sixty-three videos (78.8%) were classified as useful, 6 (7.5%) as misleading and 11 (13.8%) as a patient's personal experience. Thirteen videos (16.3%) discussed the definition of leukemia, 8 (10.0%) discussed etiology, 6 (7.5%) discussed pathogenesis, 7 (8.8%) discussed symptoms of leukemia, 50 (62.5%) discussed treatment choices, and 15 videos (18.8%) discussed oral care of leukemia. Thirteen videos (16.3%) were assessed as poor, 17 (21.3%) as generally poor, 39 (48.8%) as moderate, 10 (12.5%) as good quality, and 1 (1.3%) as excellent. There was a significant difference between the content of videos and the number of views, number of likes, number of dislikes, and number of comments (P < .05). There was a significant difference between the content of videos and number of views, number of likes, number of dislikes, and number of comments (P = .007, P = .006, P = .049, and P = .011 respectively). There was no significant difference between demographic parameters and quality of video. There was no significant difference between demographic parameters (except duration, P = .025) and source of information. Conclusions: YouTube is a useful source of information on leukemia. Health care professionals should take into consideration that YouTube is an effective information tool for the patient.Öğe Prevalence of pneumatization of the articular eminence and glenoid fossa viewed on cone-beam computed tomography examinations in a Turkish sample(Springer, 2020) Salli, Gulay Altan; Ozcan, Ilknur; Pekiner, Filiz NamdarObjective The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of the pneumatization of the articular eminence and glenoid fossa (PAT and PGF, respectively) using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods CBCT images of 1000 patients (511 females and 489 males) representing 2000 regions of interest (the glenoid fossa and articular eminence of each patient) were examined retrospectively with regard to age, gender, laterality, and type of pneumatization. The mean age of the female patients was 39.66 and that of males was 39.79. Suitable images from patients aged 16 years and over found in the archives of CBCT images were included in the study. The data were assessed using IBM SPSS 20 and statistical comparisons between two categorical variables were conducted using Chi square tests. Results It was observed that 14.7% of the patients had PAT and 47.1% had PGF. There was no significant difference in PAT and PGF prevalence between ages, age ranges, and gender in our study (p > 0.5). Conclusions It is important to evaluate the pneumatic cells in the articular eminence and glenoid fossa regions before surgery. It was also found that CBCT is more helpful in detecting pneumatization than plain film.Öğe YOUTUBE AS A SOURCE OF INFORMATION ON FLUORIDE THERAPY(Int Soc Fluoride Research, 2020) Egil, Edibe; Salli, Gulay AltanInternet platforms, such as YouTube, are gaining in importance as interfaces where health-related information can be stored and quickly accessed by people. The aim of this study was to assess the video content of YouTube videos about fluoride ion (F) therapy. A search of YouTube was performed using the keywords fluoride treatment for kids, which is one of the most frequently terms for searching on F therapy. The data in the videos were extracted using a YouTube video application programming interface. For all the videos, the video length, date of upload, total views, number of likes/dislikes, and comments were collected. Calculations were made of the views per day, viewing rate, and viewers interaction. Two dentists independently reviewed the first 200 videos and evaluated their content, comprehensiveness, and accuracy. One hundred and fifty-five videos were included the study. The majority of the videos (n=69, 44.5%) were uploaded by a dentist/hygienist/specialist. The most mentioned subject was F varnish (n=66, 42.6%). Fourteen videos (9%) were assessed as being very useful, 53 videos (34.2%) as useful, 56 videos (36.1%) as slightly useful, and 32 videos (20.6%) as not useful. In our opinion, provided consideration is given to the source of an upload, YouTube can be a useful tool for learning about F therapy.
