Öğe Adjective check list and psychological stress: Evidence from Turkey(2008) Yerkoc T.; Kurt D.; Bayramoglu O.; Yildirim H.; Yildirim O.It is called stress when an individual begins to act different physically and mentally as a result of the fact that he or she is affected by the environment he or she lived and worked in. To block or balance the process of adaptation to stressful circumstances of people can be in different ways. However, it may not be possible to get rid of stress completely. So that, an individual who is overstressed can suffer aggressiveness, nonconfidence, difficulties in focusing, chronic tiredness, tension, sadness, anxiety, anger, poor health, depression, etc. Naturally, this causes the individual, who is overstressed, to have mental, physical, and psychological illnesses. As a result, it becomes more difficult for the individual to adapt his or her social environment. In this research, the stress levels of the parents having disabled students was assessed using Abidin's (1990) Parenting Stress Index (PSI) on a sample of 190 parents. According to the results, it has been achieved that parents who has low socio-economic status, are exposed to more stress to the extent of parenting distress.Öğe Internet addiction research in the school of vocational studies: Evidence from Turkey(2008) Kurt D.; Tekin A.; Yildirim O.As a growing trend in the world, internet-based remote education both in governmental and private education institutes is getting popular in Turkey as it is to be all over the world. Internet-based education models give learners the chance to interact with the system. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between personality and internet addiction of the students of Vocational school in a few of private University in Istanbul, Turkey. There is a significant correlation between the student' personality which are depicted via adjective checklist and the student' internet addiction. Adjective Check List (ACL) items consist of adjectives which are words and/or phrases used for daily descriptions in Turkish Language. The scale composed of 25 items is examined for psychometric properties and internal consistency. In this research, Internet Addiction Inventory and ACL were conducted at the same time to a sample of 254 students of School of Vocational Studies. Internet addiction and personality correlates of ACL are of interest on two counts. It is important to know what variables may be confounded with tendency of internet usage.
