This research note aims to trace the impact of demographic changes on hospitality labor market and to identify problem areas. The problem areas identified in the hospitality labor market are labor shortages, skills shortages, high labor turnover, and lack of unionization. Potential solutions for addressing these labor problems are suggested.Öğe The Logistics Management and Coordination in Procurement Phase of Organ Transplantation(Tohoku Univ Medical Press, 2008) Genc, RuhetThe number of organ transplantation surgeries has increased particularly in the last decade Clue to technological and scientific advances in medicine. Despite this increase, many patients, however, remain in waiting lists for transplantation surgery. Main reasons for these waiting lists are that there are limited number of organ donations and specifically problems in the management of organ transplantation activities. An efficient management of the allocation and transportation of organs (in other words, logistics management of organ transplantation) are thus extremely important. The aim of the paper is to review Cut-rent practices of logistics management in the procurement phase of organ transplantation. It initially reviews the organizational structures of the international and national coordination centres, which are founded to coordinate organ transplantation activities and to enhance collaboration among physicians and medical staff. The paper, then, focuses on the possible managerial problems encountered during the procurement phase of organ transplantation. With this respect, common transportation difficulties from global and local perspective are also analyzed. This paper tries to take attention to a systematic regard of the organ transplantation from logistics point of view, thus providing applicable solutions to managerial problems in terms of allocation and transportation of organs.Öğe MANAGERIAL PERSPECTIVE ON REGIONAL MARKETING ACTIVITIES OF DESTINATION MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATIONS (DMOs)(Cognizant Communication Corp, 2009) Genc, Ruhet; Pirnar, IgeDestination management is an important competitive marketing method for global tourism destinations. Especially, when cooperated with image and brand management, it helps destinations to stand out from today's severe crowd of competition. The successful and efficient destination management companies usually play a major role in marketing their destinations, but there exists a conflict in literature on the level of involvement in related marketing activities. Though managing an autonomous organization having its' own budget and freedom in decision making seems to be the best solution to meet the rapidly changing trends and needs of global tourists, it needs to be analyzed within the organizations' managerial level. The aim of this article is to determine the perspectives of DMO managers from the most important two destinations in Turkey, which is a very popular country that is usually in the first 10 in the international tourism market. The destinations chosen are Istanbul and Izmir, which by using destination management within the last 10 years were able to become popular global brands in the world market by increasing their share rapidly.Öğe Organ transplantation surgery in Turkey and in the world: The management of transplantation logistics(Aves, 2009) Genc, RuhetObjectives: Disorganization or incoordination among transplant centres or other health care centres may have negative effects on the transplantation activities. Especially, the effective management on the allocation and transportation of the organs to the target hospital (transplantation logistics) are extremely important. Study plan: This review paper aims to shed light on to the managerial difficulties and common problems in the transplantation logistics. Initially, the organizational issues in international and national coordination centres are reviewed and then the common problems of transplant phycisians and health care managers are focused. Difficulties encountered specifically in the allocation and transportation of organs are also discussed.
