Öğe The Association Between Sleep Quality, Depression, Anxiety And Stress Levels, And Temporomandibular Joint Disorders Among Turkish Dental Students During The Covıd-19 Pandemic(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2021) Gaş, Selin; Özsoy, Hilal Ekşi; Aydın, KaderObjective: This study aimed to examine the association between sleep quality, depression, anxiety and stress levels, and the frequency of temporomandibular disorders in a sample of Turkish dental students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The current cross-sectional study was conducted with 699 dental university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) were used in the present study. Results: The incidence of temporomandibular joint disorders in the present study was found to be 77.5%. Female students’ FAI scores were found to be statistically significantly higher than males (p < 0.05). Additionally, higher depression and anxiety and stress levels caused increased PSQI and FAI scores. Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, increased temporomandibular joint disorders were observed with increased impaired sleep quality and higher depression, anxiety and stress levels among dental university students.Öğe Effects Of Hyaluronic Acid And Gamma-Radiated Mineralized Allografts On The Healing Of Rat Tibial Defects(Çukurova University, 2020) Gaş, Selin; Olgaç, Necat Vakur; Çebi, Ahmet Taylan; Kasapoğlu, ÇetinPurpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of hyaluronic acid (HyA) and gamma-radiated mineralized allografts (Gr-MAs) on the healing of bone defects in rat tibiae. Materials and Methods: Fifty-two male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly allocated to four groups: Gr-MA, HyA, Gr-MA combined with HyA (Gr-MA + HyA), and controls with empty defects. The animals were sacrificed on the 7th and 21st postoperative days. The inflammation, necrosis, fibrosis, new bone formation, and bone healing scores were evaluated on the basis of the histopathological findings. Results: The amount of new bone formation was found to be significantly greater in the control group than in the experimental groups. In addition, the healing scores were statistically higher in the control and the Gr-MA + HyA groups. Comparisons of the control, graft, and HyA groups indicated that the control group exhibited significantly less necrosis on the 7th day; however, on the 21st day, there were no statistically significant differences among the groups. There were no statistically significant differences among the groups in terms of the inflammation and fibrosis levels on the 7th or 21st days. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the application of HyA alone and the addition of HyA to Gr-MA did not improve bone regeneration in rat tibial defects.Öğe Quality and Content of YouTube (TM) Videos Related to Sinus Lift Surgery(Elsevier, 2021) Gaş, Selin; Paksoy, TuğçeObjective: In the interest of supplying medical information to YouTube (TM) videos, this study aimed to assess the quality and content of the information provided that is related to sinus lift surgery. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, YouTube (TM) videos were searched using the search term "sinus lift surgery". The first 140 videos were reviewed and analyzed by two independent researchers, after which 103 of them were included in the study. A 13-point scale was used to classify the videos by low- and high-content. Each video was evaluated on content quality using the video information and quality index (VIQI). Results: Ninety-four (94.28%) and nine (8.72%) videos were included in the high-content and low-content groups, respectively. The high-content video group covered more topics than the low-content group, such as the definition of the procedure, its contraindications and advantages, and what to expect after the surgery (P < 0.05). The total VIQI scores of the high-score group were significantly higher than those of the low-score group. There was a positively strong correlation between total content score and VIQI (r = 0.777, P < 0.05). Conclusion: The quantity and quality of the YouTube (TM) videos that feature sinus lift surgery are limited for professionals but may be sufficient for patients and non-specialist health care providers. Medical professionals, such as periodontists and oral surgeons, should play more of an active role in providing high-quality information by directing patients toward alternative sources that more clearly explain their surgeries.Öğe The Relationship Between Stress Levels, Sleep Quality, and Oral Health-related Quality of Life in Turkish University Students with Self-reported Bruxism(Galenos Publishing House, 2022) Gaş, Selin; Ekşi Özsoy, Hilal; Cesur Aydın, KaderObjective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep quality, stress levels, and oral health-related quality of life of university students with self-reported sleep/awake bruxism in Turkey. Materials and Methods: Four anonymous questionnaires [Self-reported bruxism, perceived stress scale (PSS), Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), and oral health impact profile-14 [(OHIP-14)] were administered to 310 university student volunteers that were randomly selected from the various provinces of Turkey. The participants were required to respond independently to the questionnaires at home and were encouraged to contact the authors for further assistance if needed. Results: Among the study participants, 56.8% were from the school of dentistry and 43.2% from other departments. Of all the participants, 29% had self-reported awake bruxism and 42.3% had self-reported sleep bruxism. A positive correlation was found between the PSS and OHIP-14 results (23.5%) and between the PSQI and PSS (24.6%) results in the students with self-reported awake bruxism (p=0.235, p=0.246; p<0.05). A positive correlation was found between the PSS and OHIP-14 results (23.1%) and between the PSQI and PSS (29.6%) results in the students with self-reported sleep bruxism (p=0.231, p=0.296; p<0.05). Conclusion: Self-reported awake or sleep bruxism was found to be associated with higher stress levels and sleep disturbances and weaker oral health-related quality of life in university students.
