Özet
John Fowles'un The Collector adlı eserinde Frederick Clegg, Miranda Grey'e karşı bir takıntı geliştirirken onu esir alır.
In John Fowles's The Collector, Frederick Clegg takes Miranda Grey captive, as he develops an obsession towards her. Due to his traumatic background and problematic childhood, Clegg mentally and physically tortures his beloved Miranda, resorting to defense mechanisms to cope with his psyche. Clegg practices authority over Miranda and owns her physicality till he causes her death at the end. Likely, in Stephen King's Misery, Annie Wilkes holds her favorite author, Paul Sheldon, captive. Driven by her previous traumatic experiences that have led to her unstable psyche, she develops obsession with Paul and his novels. She torments Paul and controls his intellectuality till he finally earns his freedom after a disastrous period. Through a comparative analysis between both novels from a psychoanalytic perspective, this thesis sheds light on the profound impact of psychological factors on the relationship between the captors and the captives, exploring the dark side of the human psyche.
