Öğe A Case Study of Beach User Perceptions in Sile, Istanbul(Mediterranean Coastal Foundation-Medcoast Foundation, 2009) Paksoy, Perihan; Colakoglu, NurdanIn order to facilitate public participation in the preparation of plans and policies for sustainable development, acquiring the perception of the public and community based planning become vital. Acknowledgement about perceptions of the end-users could lead the decision makers in adopting these thoughts in their policies and consequently can lead to content visitors. User perceptions can become vital especially at beach preferences as cleanliness, safety and amenities are some of the apparent factors that will affect. With the awareness of probable adaptation of beach users' demands into policy recommendations, a case study has been carried out at Black Sea Coast of Istanbul at Sile beaches. Sue has been chosen in this study purposefully as it is a touristic district of Istanbul which has aimed to earn Blue Flag award but has not been awarded yet. Secondly, it receives high amount of visitors especially during the peak periods in weekends; as it has a very close location to the city, people are choosing here most of the time just for the day. In this research with factors about human use of beach and impacts like cleanliness and sufficiency of amenities (showers, toilets, changing cubicles, parks etc.) and the number of lifeguards are studied. Beach users' perceptions are collected by means of a questionnaire randomly applied during the week time. To include beach users' demands into policy recommendations and utilize the conclusions and recommendations, the researchers aim to acknowledge the municipality about the results.Öğe THE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF COMPULSORY EDUCATION APPLICATIONS IN EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES VERSUS TURKEY(Int Scientific Conference Sgem, 2008) Paksoy, Perihan; Colakoglu, NurdanCompulsory education is regarded as the most vital part of formal education. It entails that the individual shall be given education for a definite period of time during defined periods. All countries try to ensure that all young people enter working life with a minimum amount of human capital gained through the years of compulsory education. However it is observed that every country endeavors to apply a different standard for compulsory education. Specifically while we are ill the integration process with the European Union (EU), we aimed to analyze the European Union Policy about Compulsory Education and applications of the European Union countries. Most European countries have separate systems for early childhood and compulsory education. The researchers believe in the importance of the appraisement of education systems and schools in assuring quality education when decentralization is becoming increasingly widespread in Europe. Pinpointing the evaluation of systems, the starting age or the compulsory education, the duration Of the compulsory education, the financial support given by the governments and the diversity of the Courses constitute our main concern in comparing the countries in this study. Previous Studies about Compulsory education, Country reports, EU official documents and reports have been analyzed for this research. In the first part of the Study the comparisons are made between the EU countries where similarities and differences are highlighted. In the second part of the study the Compulsory education ill Turkish educational system is analyzed.Öğe COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT PROGRAMMES UNIVERSITY IN TERMS OF ENVIRONMENT LITERACY(Int Scientific Conference Sgem, 2009) Temizyurek, Kamil; Colakoglu, NurdanTwenty first Century witnessed rapid advance of technology and resultant extravagant use of technological products by people. Unconscious and extravagant use of technology products rapidly pollutes the environment, where we live. Accelerated environmental pollution, including both alive and non-alive nature which in fact serves partially for alive functions, is most serious problem of our age Global Warming, recently started to be argued, and resultant drawbacks are, in fact, continuum of environmental and global problems created by human being for year. This study investigates the literacy levels of university students in the subsets of environment and health. Students health consciousness was studied as well as their awareness of environmental protection measures. In addition, their opinions on the effect of global warming, on natural life, the environment and health were investigated. Literacy levels within groups as well as among different programs were examined in terms of following: 1. Scientific Illiteracy (or little level), 2.Nominal Scientific Literacy, 3. Interactive or Conceptual-Procedural Scientific Literacy, 4. It can even be argued that teaching about the environment at the primary school level is a national duty. In this study we tried to determine the cognitive and affective levels of primary education Students between the ages of 10 and 14 in their attitudes towards global warming and environmental pollution. Also in this study, comparison was trying to make between participants on the issue of information source and primary reason of environmental awareness. This study was made face to face with the participants and the results were achieved by using Likert skala method. Results with SPSS statistical methods are examined. Thus, we tried to determine the Environmenment and Health Literacy of the participants, and at the same time we examined their opinions, attitudes and behaviour towards the sources of environment related in formation.Öğe Importance of Human Resources in Strategic Merging: Example of Mergers Between Two Banks With Foreing Capital, Which Operate in Turkey(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) Colakoglu, Nurdan; Yesildag, Gul Nihan GuvenThe increased competition with globalization increasingly complicated sustainability efforts of companies and it became necessary for those companies to make several strategic decisions in timely and implement them in correct manner in order to survive (Rose, 1999:105). Following '80s, the advances in global economy and rapid developments in the field of technology led to changes in global economy and particularly in banking sector (Dincer, 2006:77). Following changes experienced in financial markets, bank mergers and acquisitions started to be often experienced (Gaudhan, 2001:98). In this study, it was aimed to examine tendency of banking mergers in the world and accordingly to reveal out merging process of two banks with foreign capital, which operates in Turkey, and views and thoughts of bank employees. Data on employees of both banks were obtained via questionnaire form and they were subjected to statistical analysis with SPSS 16.0 package. Parametric and non-parametric analyzes such as reliability analysis, independent sample t test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskall Wallis test were used. According to resultant data, bank mergers may cause concerns about employment in the side of employees, although the process can be positive. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. As a result, Turkish higher education institutions have had the chance to join Erasmus -the higher education associated sub-program of the Socrates programme- all through the academic year 2004/2005 and recognized mobility activities with their European partners. The initial part of this article comprises the common information about the statistical data for contributing in Erasmus throughout the country. In the parts for student staff mobility, there is information on the numbers of outgoings, most-preferred countries and most-preferred subject areas of the related actions.Öğe Perceptions Of Network Effects: Positive Or Negative Externalities?(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) Top, Seyfi; Dilek, Serkan; Colakoglu, NurdanThe purpose of this study is to search if consumers are aware of network effects. If consumers are rational, they will make their consumption decisions by thinking about maximization of their utility without paying too much. The quality of a good does not only depend on producer's decisions in network markets. Also the number of other customers, affect the quality of a good. First we reviewed literature about network externalities and effects. Secondly, we analyzed the survey which is conducted to measure network externalities perceptions. The survey is conducted on Beykent University Vocational School pupils. As a result we reached interesting results about the network perceptions of pupils. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
