Ahşap, doğayla uyumlu, geri düşünülebilir, çevre kirliliği oluşturmayan mimaride sık kullanılan doğal ve ekonomik yapı malzemelerinden birisidir. Çevre ve insan sağlığı açısından sürdürülebilir bir malzeme özelliği taşımaktadır. Tez çalışmasında öncelikle; çalışmanın amacı, kapsamı ve yöntemi ele alınmıştır. Birinci bölümde; ahşabın tanımı, tarihçesi ve özellikleri tanıtılmıştır. İkinci bölümde; yapı malzemesi olarak ahşabın kullanım alanları, ahşap taşıyıcı elemanlar, döşemeler, tavan, doğrama elemanları, merdivenler, duvarlar, çatı, iskelet sistemi incelenmiş, her birinin görevi açıklanmıştır. Tüm yapı elemanlarına örnekler verilerek görsellerle zenginleştirilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde; Şile İlçesi ve Kabakoz Mahallesinin tarihçesi, coğrafi konumu, nüfus özellikleri, sosyal kültürel ve tarihi özellikleri araştırılmıştır. Kabakoz Mahallesinde seçilen örnek yapılar fotoğraflanarak, yapı elemanlarının mevcut durum değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır. Sonuç kısmında da; çalışmanın sonuçları üzerinde durulmuş, tez çalışması hakkında genel bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır.Wood is a building material that has been widely used since ancient times. It is a sustainable material in terms of environment and human health. First of all the thesis work; The purpose, scope and method of use are discussed. The first part; definition, history and properties of wood are introduced. In the second part; The usage areas of wood as a building material, wooden carrier elements, floors, ceiling, joinery elements, stairs, walls, roof, skeleton system were examined and the usage areas of each was explained.. Spanning all building elements is enriched with visuals. The third part; The history, geographical location, population characteristics, social, cultural and historical characteristics of Şile and Kabakoz District were investigated. Selected sample buildings in Kabakoz Neighborhood were photographed and the current situation of the building elements was evaluated.
