A Socio- Political Analysis of Baroque Period Europe on Rubens’s Paintings

The works of art refl ect the socio-political structures of the societies that they are produced, in different styles and periods. Baroque art is a consequence of the chaotic political environment of 17th century Europe. The religious wars, the power relations of monarchies, the conquests and colonisations are the subjects of Baroque art, especially Rubens’s paintings. Rubens’s talent, and his close relations with the people who dominated Europe’s policies, brought a political quality to his paintings.
