This study aims to examine how the senior managers of Turkish traditional financial institutions evaluate the differences in financial technology initiatives, the characteristics of innovations and the features overlapping with disruptive innovation, how these executives assess the response strategies developed by traditional actors, and their envision on how the financial ecosystem will evolve, within the framework of the Disruptive Innovation Theory, and to put forward propositions that can be adopted. The research findings, carried out with a multi-case qualitative study design and cross-case synthesis, are significant as they guide the formation of strategies of traditional actors and contribute to eliminating deficiencies in the literature. In addition, this research will take a different place in the literature in terms of reflecting the perspective of the Turkish financial sector specific to the participants. The prominent findings of the study revealed the features of fintech start-ups focusing on a particular area, being fast, flexible, and agile. Moreover, the features of fintech initiatives innovations that overlap with "disruptive innovation" are those that reach new customers, create a new market, and target the lower end of the market, besides being cheap, easy to use, and simple, bringing new functions, creating new business models, using new technology and starting to have a market share in the sector. However, the innovations of fintech initiatives cannot reach the appreciation of the mainstream customer in deposits. Digital banks, payments business models, the future hybrid business models such as open banking and service banking, and artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies have disruptive potential. In addition, it is predicted that fintech initiatives will not be destructive to banking. It has been revealed that traditional financial institutions have strategies to establish and purchase fintech start-ups, use artificial intelligence and robotic automation technologies, cooperate with fintech start-ups, invest and be partners, and establish acceleration and innovation centers. Forecasts regarding hybrid business models expressed as service banking, platform banking, embedded banking, invisible banking, and distributed structure applications in decentralized finance are prominent findings among the predictions of the future financial ecosystem. In addition, the projection of the continuation of banking has been put forward.
