Abstract
The purpose of this work is to understand David Bowie's method of existence as an artist, the references of the characters he creates on his albums and the creation process in the society where the meanings of existing values after the Second World War are questioned and restructured. The concept of gender, which is an important issue of the period, is also centered on Bowie's Major Tom and Ziggy Stardust characters, which are included in the identification mechanism, while the popular issue of the popular culture, which has gained momentum during the same period, has become the focal point of the Bowie studies. Bowie's method of creating his characters is through the separation of pieces from identity, that is, from identity, primarily from spatial and conceptual alienation, then from this transformation to new meaning, that is to say transformation and creation through iconography. It is closely related to the fields of Pop Art and Performance Art from the Conceptual Arts of the period, making everyday affairs a part of art and presenting these pieces in a performance unity. All these features make David Bowie an icon, making it an important factor both in the popular culture world and in the art world.
